Our History
A-1 PERSONNEL was established in 1981. In 1986, Pat Hammond purchased the agency from Peggy Hodges. It was located at 3049 Sherwood Forest Boulevard, Suite 200, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Pat Hammond also owned Pat Hammond’s Unique Personnel and Western Temporary Services, Inc.
Operating under the direction of Pat Hammond, all three companies prospered. In 1988, A-1 was moved to 3036 Brakley Dr. Suite A, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The service was a specialized permanent placement agency with two counselors. Linda K. "Deda" Berente was hired and trained to be a personnel specialist by Pat Hammond in August of 1994. In June 1995, Deda began a branch office for temporary services for Tempco Personnel from Gonzales, Louisiana. Producing over one million dollars of business before December 1995, Deda was named manager of A-1 Personnel in January 1996.
Pat Hammond retired at that time and in April that year, she decided to sell A-1 Personnel. Deda purchased the business on June 4, 1996. It has expanded to a full service Agency to include both Temporary and Permanent Services. It is now operating under the umbrella of Berente Companies, LLC.
A-1 Personnel has now moved to 4608 Jones Creek Road. With this teams innovative ideas and eager drive for success, A-1 PERSONNEL is on the HORIZON to a prosperous future. Deda Berente intends for Berente Companies, LLC/A-1 Personnel to grow and be successful, never losing sight of the goal: Jobs for People and People for Jobs.
After the purchase of A-1 Personnel in 1996, Berente Companies has started five more companies to meet the needs of the community: A-1 Handyman, A-1 Teleservices, A-1 Bizops, A-1 Parochial Bus Service, and A-1 Memories.
